Vinyl Record Storage Rack: Keep their next listen close to hand
A vinyl rack gives a small collection or a few favourites a home in the listening space. Check that it supports their sleeved records upright and has room to browse, not just room to squeeze them in.

Find out what needs a home
Perhaps they've started a collection, or they want a few current favourites near the record player. A compact rack can suit either need. Ask how much they want to store and measure the space before choosing a size or finish for their room.
Count the records they want to keep in the rack, including thicker gatefold sleeves and any outer protective covers. Box sets and different record sizes need their own fit check. A rack for a few albums won't replace proper shelving for a large collection.
Capacity is more than a number on the listing
Internal space: compare the usable width, depth and height with the records in their sleeves.
Support: check the base, ends and any dividers. Records should stay upright without slumping into a large empty gap.
Browsing room: they need to lift or slide a record out comfortably, without forcing the covers together.
Stability: check load limits, how the rack is assembled and any fixing the maker requires.
Keep records upright in their sleeves rather than stacked flat. The rack should support them in that position; a decorative display for one cover is a different kind of purchase.
Make room for listening, and for storage
Check the full footprint, including feet and handles, plus the clearance needed to reach the albums. Choose a place away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp. An attractive rack doesn't make an unsuitable spot better for records.
Open storage makes browsing easy, but leaves the collection more exposed than an enclosed cabinet. Their protective sleeves still have a job to do.
For Christmas or a birthday, choose the rack around the collection and room they already have. If you're also considering playback equipment, our record player advice explains the checks for that purchase.
If storage is already sorted, a vinyl record album they have asked for is a different option. Confirm the edition and existing collection rather than buying records merely to fill the rack.
