Puzzle Sorting Trays: Keep the sorted pieces sorted
Puzzle trays give loose jigsaw pieces a shallow space of their own, ready to spread out again at the next session.

Choose space they can actually use
Shallow trays let a puzzler keep groups of pieces face up instead of returning them to one mixed box. That is a different job from a deep compartmented craft case: the pieces need visible working area, not simply somewhere to fit.
Look beyond the number in the pack. Inner tray dimensions and depth decide how useful the set will be. Their usual piece size and sorting habits will tell you whether several small groups or a few broad surfaces make more sense.
What happens when the trays stack?
The set needs room on the table when open and a suitable space when put away. Stacked trays should leave clearance for their contents; nesting empty trays is not the same as storing full ones. A lid may cover only the top, and not every stack is designed to travel.
A light base helps dark pieces stand out, while pale pieces may be clearer against a darker surface. Shallow edges make it easier to pick pieces up. Think about what the recipient finds comfortable to see and handle.
Fit the trays into their existing setup
If their puzzle board already has drawers, ask whether additional trays would help. They might welcome more sorting room or prefer to keep everything inside one board.
Trays are for loose pieces, not for lifting away a whole partly completed jigsaw. Compare the size of the full stack with the shelf or cupboard where it will live.
