The paper is part of the print
A fresh pack lets a printmaker test ink, adjust pressure and pull several copies of a design without rationing their last good sheets. This is paper to receive the print, rather than a sketchbook for planning it.
Match their printing method
Block printing, etching and screen printing can place different demands on paper. Look for a pack explicitly intended for their process. Surface texture affects fine lines; absorbency affects how ink sits and dries. An example of paper they already like is more useful than choosing the heaviest sheet available.
Loose sheets, useful dimensions
Compare sheet dimensions and sheet count together. Small sheets suit cards and test prints; larger work needs space around the block as well as the image itself. Weight, usually given in gsm, describes the sheet rather than guaranteeing print quality. Acid-free paper is worth looking for when they want to keep or give away finished work.
