Padel Racket: Their own racket for the glass-walled court

A personal padel racket can be a welcome step beyond hired or borrowed equipment. Choose for the player's grip, preferred feel and regular games, with room to exchange a surprise that does not suit.

Make sure it is their game

Padel uses a perforated, solid-faced racket on its enclosed court. It is different from pickleball, platform tennis and ordinary tennis, even when marketplace descriptions mix the names. Establish that the recipient plays padel and has access to a court before choosing their first racket.

A racket is a personal choice

Shape, balance, weight, grip and face construction affect how a racket feels in the hand. A round or teardrop label alone cannot tell you whether a model will suit a particular player. Someone who already plays regularly may have tried a racket they like; that is a useful lead for a gift.

  • For a newcomer, find out what they enjoyed using when they hired or borrowed equipment.

  • For an established player, ask about the model, weight and balance they want rather than choosing by an upgrade claim.

  • Compare the grip and wrist-cord arrangement with the maker's guidance, and keep a workable exchange route.

Consider what they already have

A racket may arrive alone, with a cover or as part of a bundle. Balls and a larger kit bag can be separate purchases, and a pictured accessory is not proof it is included. If their club lends equipment and they are still trying the sport, a lesson about racket choice from their coach may help before you buy.
