Crayon Set: A small box with plenty of pictures in it
A set of wax crayons can be a welcome little gift for someone who likes making colourful marks. Choose the feel, colour range and storage for the way they draw, with the product’s age guidance in mind.

What sort of mark do they enjoy?
Wax crayons make broad, textured lines and can be used on their side for larger areas. They offer a different feel from coloured pencils, which give finer lines and need sharpening. Choose for the person’s drawing rather than adding another set simply because it has more colours.
Compare the grip and the box
Chunky sticks, paper-wrapped crayons and twist-up designs ask for different handling. Look at the age guidance and the recipient’s grip; a thick shape alone does not establish suitability for a very young child. A box that closes neatly is useful when the crayons will travel.
Read the colour count carefully
A modest selection of distinct colours can be more useful than a classroom carton with many repeats. Someone who spends time drawing may enjoy extra shades, while a small everyday palette can be plenty for casual pictures.
Check the maker’s washable claim. It may name particular fabrics or surfaces and a specific cleaning method. Ask where the crayons will be used and provide paper, rather than assuming every mark will disappear.
Make the stocking present usable
Compare the complete small-set packaging with the stocking opening. Paper or a suitable colouring book can give the recipient somewhere to start, but check what is included. Large mixed-media art cases are a different present and should not inherit the small box’s stocking suitability.
