Book Cloth: A different finish for their next binding
A length of book cloth lets a maker choose the outside of a handmade book, from a quiet woven texture to a favourite colour.

Look beneath the fabric surface
Covering cloth needs to work with the boards and glue in the binding. Paper-backed cloth and starched or coated bookcloth are different constructions; ordinary dressmaking fabric may need preparation of its own. Choose a material the recipient's method supports.
Do not confuse cover cloth with mull or super. Those open-weave materials reinforce the spine internally. A strip of repair tape or a self-adhesive covering film is another purchase again, even when the search results put them together.
Buy enough for the whole case
The front cover is only part of the measurement. Allow for the back, spine and turn-ins required by the pattern. A bundle of small sheets can be generous for miniature books and insufficient for a single larger album.
Check the actual sheet or roll dimensions, number of pieces and whether adhesive is supplied or must be added. Colour, weave and surface finish are good places for personal taste, but compatibility comes first. A textured cloth does not automatically accept foil, printing or heat-applied decoration.
This is a supply for someone who enjoys the covering stage and has a project to make. If they need the instructions and tools as well, compare a bookbinding kit before choosing cloth on its own.
