Matcha Starter Kit: A good beginning for their matcha routine
A bowl and whisk are the useful heart of a matcha starter kit. Choose for the way they will prepare their drink, and establish whether the set supplies tea as well as equipment.

Tools, tea, or both?
Look at the actual contents before choosing the set. Some matcha kits contain a bowl and preparation tools, while others also supply powder. A tool-only set needs tea to go with it if the recipient does not already have some.
Matcha is whisked into water, rather than brewed by steeping loose leaves. A bowl with space to work and a suitable whisk matter more than a large piece count. Check any extra scoop, sifter or whisk holder is useful to the person receiving it.
For a bowl of tea or a latte
Consider how they like to drink matcha. A bowl for whisking and drinking may have a different shape from one used to pour into a glass. A pouring lip can help with lattes; adequate space for the whisk matters for either routine.
Compare the bowl's working space and feel.
Read the care instructions for the supplied whisk.
Check which preparation tools are genuinely included.
If the kit contains tea, read its contents and storage information and keep the preparation directions with it. Choose for the matcha drink they want to make.
Give them a way to begin
For Christmas, include a small pack of suitable matcha if the set is tools only. Someone already making matcha may prefer fresh tea or an individual replacement tool, so check what they own before buying another complete starter kit.
