Electric Corkscrew: Choose an opener that fits their hands and habits
An electric corkscrew can offer a powered alternative when opening corked wine. Check how it is held and controlled, which corks it supports and what keeps it charged before buying.

Picture the opening, from foil to cork
The motor is only one part of using an electric corkscrew. The recipient may need to remove foil, centre the opener over the neck, hold the bottle still and operate another control to release the cork. Check the whole sequence and choose a grip and button arrangement they would be comfortable using.
It may suit someone who enjoys having people round and serving corked wine. A host who mainly buys screw-cap bottles may have very little use for it. Avoid treating an electric model as automatically effortless or suitable for a particular physical difficulty.
Which closures does it support?
Read the exact model's guidance on natural and synthetic corks and bottle fit. Old or damaged corks may need another approach. A wine corkscrew is not automatically suitable for sparkling-wine closures; use it only as the maker directs.
Check whether a foil cutter is supplied and how the cork is ejected. Accessories shown in a photograph can be separate, and a large gift set can add pourers and stoppers without giving the opener better controls.
A charge point or a battery drawer?
Compare replaceable-battery and rechargeable designs. Check the required batteries, cable or stand and what is actually in the box. A charging base needs a sensible place to live; a cable needs a compatible connection. Read any bottles-per-charge claim for that exact model.
A simple opener they keep ready is more useful than an elaborate set they never charge. Follow the cleaning and storage instructions for the powered unit rather than washing it as if it were a manual corkscrew.
Make the first use straightforward
For Christmas, check the charging accessories or include the required batteries. For Thanksgiving, choose for a celebrating host who enjoys wine, with no expectation that they will learn the new opener during the meal.
