Baking Cooling Rack: A landing place for the next batch

A raised wire rack gives cakes, biscuits and bread airflow as they cool. Choose a roomy single rack or stackable tiers to suit the baker's worktop and usual batches.

Give the baking a proper place to cool

A cooling rack is the unglamorous piece that becomes welcome when the oven is busy. Raised wires allow air beneath a loaf, cake or batch of biscuits, instead of leaving the underside against a solid surface. It makes a useful companion to a baking pan set, especially if the baker already has all the tins they need.

One generous rack or several tiers?

For large loaves and cakes, start with a stable single rack that supports the whole bake. Stackable tiers suit successive biscuit batches and a smaller worktop, provided the feet and joints stay steady. Measure the usable area, not just the overall dimensions: a narrow rack can leave a cake overhanging.

A close grid helps support small biscuits and delicate pastries. Check how the rack stores and cleans; coated versions may require hand washing. Cooling does not mean oven-safe. If they want to use the rack for roasting as well, that needs a separate manufacturer rating.

Make a modest present feel considered

Add a favourite biscuit recipe or choose the rack that solves an actual space problem. A second rack is useful when their current one is regularly full; an identical spare is less thoughtful when it will simply sit in the cupboard.
