Tea Advent Calendar: A tea break behind each door
A tea advent calendar turns the Christmas countdown into a daily cup. Choose tea bags or loose leaves to suit their routine, and read the blend list before buying.

Choose the tea before the calendar
An attractive countdown box is only part of the present. The blends inside should match what they enjoy drinking. A black-tea drinker may prefer familiar varieties with a few surprises; someone who likes herbal infusions may enjoy a different selection entirely.
Read the ingredients as well as the flavor names. Chai-style blends, licorice, fruit and added aromas can make a calendar interesting, but they also change who will enjoy it. An herbal label alone does not establish that a blend is caffeine-free.
Count cups, not just doors
A calendar may repeat several blends or supply more than one bag per compartment. Those can be useful choices, especially for two people sharing, but 24 doors does not necessarily mean 24 different teas.
Match bags or loose leaves to their usual brewing equipment.
Compare the amount of tea and the serving count, not just the box size.
Read the brewing directions and any ingredient or allergen information.
Loose-leaf portions need a suitable infuser. If they do not own one, an infuser mug can be useful alongside the calendar, although a bag-based selection is simpler.
Give it while there are doors left to open
This is a before-Christmas present: hand it over ahead of the intended countdown. Check its day count, current contents and freshness information, especially when a listing shows an earlier year's packaging.
For a gift they can open whenever they like, a tea tasting set offers the same pleasure of trying different cups without a dated routine. Our Christmas gift guide has more choices if tea is only one of their interests.
