Table Linen Set: Let the table feel like theirs
Table linens can give a host a new way to set the table, from matching cloth napkins to a coordinated runner and place settings. Choose useful pieces in a style they like, with sizes and care that fit their routine.

First, decide what belongs in the set
Table linen is a category of table textiles, not a promise that every piece is made from flax linen. A set might be matching cloth napkins, placemats, a runner or a larger coordinated bundle. Read the contents before choosing the color so the gift adds pieces the recipient will actually use.
For someone who enjoys entertaining, enough napkins or place settings for their usual guests may be more useful than lots of decorative extras. Tablecloths and napkins are not automatically included with a runner set.
A look that belongs in their home
Pick up on the dishes, furniture and colors they already enjoy. Patterned textiles can give a plain table a different feel; a quieter finish leaves more attention on the food and serving pieces. Browse other home decorating gifts if their taste is clearer than their table measurements.
Measure the table they really use
For a tablecloth, check the table's shape, length and width, then allow for the overhang they want on each side. A runner needs its own width and length check. Measure the table with any extension in place if that is how they use it for gatherings.
Placemats should fit their plates with room between settings. Photographs may show a long table or more coordinated pieces than the chosen pack supplies, so use the dimensions and pack count rather than the staged scene.
Think about the morning after
Read the fiber label and wash instructions. Cotton, flax linen, blends and synthetic fabrics have different feel and care; linen-look wording alone does not establish the fiber. Check whether the recipient would be happy washing, drying and ironing the set as directed.
An easy-care set they use often can be a better gift than a formal one they avoid. Claims about stain resistance or heat protection should be checked for the exact pieces.
For Christmas, choose seasonal patterns only if they would enjoy storing and reusing them. For a Thanksgiving gift, ask about the host's table plan and avoid expecting them to reset it around the present.
