Does the kit include the tea?
Start with the contents list. A matcha starter kit may supply only preparation tools, or combine them with a small pack of tea. A picture of a green drink does not mean matcha powder is included. If it is a gift for someone starting out, make sure they have tea to use with the tools.
Matcha is whisked into water rather than steeped as loose leaves. A bowl with room for the whisk and a suitable whisk are the useful core of the set. Extra pieces earn their place when they help with preparation or care, rather than simply making the kit look bigger.
Choose for the drink they make
