Guitar Stand: A place for the guitar between songs
A floor stand gives their guitar a place beside the practice chair. Choose one that fits the instrument, supports it securely and suits the space where they play.

Buy the stand for their guitar
A stand can be a handy gift when a guitarist wants somewhere to put the instrument between playing sessions. Start with the guitar they own: an acoustic body is deeper than many electric guitars, and an unusual shape may need a particular kind of support.
Check the stand's stated compatibility, weight limit and usable dimensions. A photo of their guitar or its model name helps you choose without asking the player to make a list of measurements.
Choose how it supports the instrument
A-frame: a compact folding stand that supports the guitar body from below. Check the cradle width and depth for their instrument.
Upright with neck support: includes a taller support behind the guitar. Check height adjustment and how any retaining strap or latch works.
Multiple-guitar rack: useful only if they have several instruments and room for it; each position still needs to fit.
Padding deserves a closer look. Confirm compatibility with the guitar's finish, especially if the owner describes it as nitrocellulose lacquer. Don't assume that any soft foam is suitable; check the guitar and stand makers' guidance for that specific instrument.
Find room for the whole stand
Measure the open footprint, not only the folded size. The legs need space on a firm, level floor, with the guitar clear of doors, busy walkways and trailing cables. A small practice corner is more useful than a stand that everyone has to step around.
If they'll take it to lessons or rehearsals, compare folded dimensions, weight and the setup instructions. At home, a simple stand that fits may be more useful than extra adjustments they'll never need.
A stand makes the guitar accessible; it doesn't provide the protection of a case. Follow the instrument maker's storage advice and choose around their actual room and routine. For Christmas or a birthday, it's a practical addition when they've asked for a better place to rest the guitar.
