The right fit makes a small gift useful
Gardening gloves are easy to wrap, but sizing deserves more thought than the color. Fingers that are too long make small tasks clumsy; a tight palm can make the glove unpleasant to wear. Use the maker's measurements and compare with a pair the recipient already likes.
Potting and pruning ask for different gloves
Light, flexible coated gloves suit many planting and weeding tasks. Heavier leather or longer cuffs may suit rougher work, with less delicacy at the fingertips. A single pair will not excel at every job.
Do not treat 'thorn-proof' as an absolute. Materials, seams and cuff coverage vary, and no general gardening glove substitutes for the protective equipment specified for a particular tool or task. Check material sensitivities as well as the intended use.
Look at wet grip, washability and how easily the gloves dry. A spare good pair can be welcome when the first is muddy, but a large cheap multipack is not automatically a better gift. Choose a pair the gardener will reach for.
