Flower Vase: Give their favorite flowers a place to stand
A flower vase can turn a few stems or a full bouquet into a display. Choose its opening, height and finish around the flowers they enjoy and the place they will put it.

Let the flowers guide the shape
Picture what they usually bring home: a few short garden stems, a loose supermarket bouquet or tall branches. Those need different support. The opening matters as much as the height: a narrow neck gathers a small handful together, while a wider mouth gives a fuller arrangement room to spread.
Read the actual dimensions rather than judging by styled photographs. A vase shown with three stems may be much smaller than it first appears. Check the height, widest part of the body and opening, and consider how much room it will occupy when filled.
Make sure it can do the job
For fresh flowers, look for an explicit statement that the vessel holds water. Some decorative ceramics are intended only for dried stems; an attractive finish does not establish whether the inside is sealed. If the listing is unclear, choose one with clear wet-use instructions.
Look for a stable base that suits the weight and height of the arrangement.
Check how they will clean the inside, especially below a narrow neck.
Follow the maker's care instructions; glass or ceramic alone does not mean dishwasher-safe.
Choose a finish they will want to keep out
Clear glass keeps stems and water visible, colored glass adds another shade to the room, and opaque ceramic draws attention to the vessel itself. Think about their existing colors and furniture instead of assuming neutral means universally welcome. A strongly patterned vase can be a lovely choice when it matches their taste.
For a dining table, consider the finished arrangement, not just the empty vase. A compact vessel with shorter flowers can leave guests a clearer view of one another; a tall bouquet may suit a sideboard better. Browse other gifts for entertaining if you want something for the table without choosing their decorative style.
A vase, flowers, or both?
Check exactly what the purchase includes. The flowers in a listing photograph are often there to show the vase in use. If you add your own bouquet, choose stems that fit and account for the extra cost and transport.
