Keep it specific to block printing
These inks are formulated to roll out and transfer from a raised surface. An ink set is a replenishment or creative extension for someone who already has a roller and blocks. Ordinary drawing ink, fountain-pen ink and screen-printing ink are different buying decisions.
Paper and fabric need different choices
Choose ink explicitly suitable for the surface they print on. A paper-printing set is not automatically suitable for washable fabric. Textile inks may need a particular drying or heat-setting process; the makerโs instructions should make that clear before you buy.
Cleaning and drying affect the gift
Water-based sets often make a convenient starting point for home paper printing. Oil-based products and water-washable oil-based products have different handling and drying requirements. Match what the recipient already uses where possible. Compare tube sizes and useful mixing shades, rather than paying for lots of tiny tubes they will rarely open.
For a first attempt at carving and printing, choose a Linocut Printmaking Kit with the core tools included. For an established setup, new ink is the smaller, more focused gift.
