A refill for decorative making
Air-dry clay hardens without a kiln, making it useful for small sculptures, ornaments and other decorative pieces. A plain refill gives an existing maker more material without duplicating their tools or paints. It is a different product from foam modeling sets, oven-bake polymer clay and clay intended for kiln firing.
Choose a familiar clay and a manageable pack
Different air-hardening clays have different textures, shrinkage and working times. Replacing a product they have enjoyed is usually more useful than choosing by pack weight alone. Resealable packaging helps, but opened clay still needs careful airtight storage according to its instructions.
What the finished object can do
Drying time depends on thickness and conditions, and thick or uneven work can crack. Surface paint or sealer does not automatically make a piece waterproof or food-safe. Keep the gift focused on decorative projects rather than cups, dishes or outdoor objects unless the exact product expressly supports that use.
If they want clay that cures in an oven, look instead at a Polymer Clay Kit and follow its temperature instructions. For a first air-dry project with tools, consider a pottery starter kit.
